The 158.12011 offers the basic functionality of a straight stitch and a zig-zag stitch, but it does these extremely well. The machine uses a side loading class 15 bobbin with an oscillating hook. It also features feed dog drop, back tack, high presser foot lift, adjustable presser foot pressure, and uses a standard 15×1 needle.
I suspect it was sold to compete with the singer fashion mate model 347. Similar features, both are straight and zig-zag only, no cams, and drop feed dogs. The biggest difference is this Kenmore has a 1.0 amp motor and all metal construction… the singer uses a belt to drive its horizontal bobbin hook.
All in all, it has a more solid feel than the Singer…
